Since everyone knows the FI subforum rules, I figure I'd ask here instead of the dead driveline subf.
I'm playing with the idea of a E46 6-speed swap using the Getrag. SMG units are cheaper and easier to find. Could I use my E36 M3 bellhousing instead of sourcing the E46 MTX Bellhousing?
If you're saying using a zf310/320 bellhousing no.
420g from the e36 like the euro option, possibly but the e36 variant is more valuable than the e46 version.
Next option is talk me out of my current 420g twin disc clutch, driveshaft, transmission brace, and shifter in my car so I can put the big boy transmission in.
I do not think the ZF310/320 has a removeable bell housing.

I was under the impression i had a Getrag 5-speed on my E36, but after reading here I looked and it is a ZF
epic fail
Thanks for the quick responses, gentlemen!
ZF is not an epic fail.
^ True (Epic fail me thinking I had the getrag, not realizing it was only in the euro E36. I think I was mixed up with the 5-speed getrag out of the E30.)
ZF, they make good stuff, and are the current benchmark for high-gear count automatics. I love my 8-speed in my ram. Some Japanese transmission companies (I used to work for one) were going crazy trying to match the ZF's performance.
Well said.
