SOS Malfunction error

I received the dreaded title error code consistently now for 3 days

All audio worked

Navigation worked

All multimedia worked

Bluetooth connection worked


So today, I pressed the SOS button to confirm that it was truly disabledAnd to my surprise -----------> it worked.


I was advised on the call that the error might reset and be OK after the hangup.

The call terminated, I shut the car off; waited 2 minutes and restarted the car and all is wellAt least for knowThe Assistant operator said they are having a lot of these error messages lately; mine was Sep 1 - 3 2019BTW, this service does not require a subscription or renewal process of any kind

If a warning message has come up, there will be a fault code stored. If you have the codes read with a proper BMW scan tool, you will know why the error message turned on.

Can you recommend a scan tool?

I have an "Actron" that worked fine for my 2001 740il, but is probably not sophisticated enough for a 2015 M5

I work at a dealership, so I only have experience with BMW's ISTA software and tools. I've heard it can be installed on a lap top though. There's also an app called Carly that a lot of people seem to use.
