Hi all,
This is my first post, I hope it is in the right place
So... I just bought a 2008 M3 Sedan, around 82K miles. 3 weeks in I started to hear a knock from below (I haven't ran 3 tanks of gas through it since purchase). I changed the oil and saw shavings on the filter. I have it in a German Auto Shop (German Auto Repair in Grapevine, TX, if any one has any insight on the shop). They dropped the pan and said there was there were plastic chunks in it, that the timing guide broke, plugged the pick up tube and starved the engine of oil. They are recommending installing a used engine vs the cost of replacing the guides and rod bearings (which were shot as well). They are also concerned about possible upper end damage. I have not really been able to find anything on timing guides for the v8 M3, anyone heard of anything like this or am I just a lucky one?
I put E93 in title... actually E90..

M3 post is the most active E9x M3 forum. Worn rod bearings are common. If bad enough, the crank can be damaged. Have not read much about timing guide failure and I have had mine since 2011 and have been active in that forum.
