My DSC is no longer responding but I don't have any warning lights on the instrument cluster. I'm getting Code S 0085, No communication possible with: Dynamic Stability Control in ISTA and no response from control unit in INPA. I checked all of the fuses associated with the DSC and ABS (Fuse 4, 26, 90, 82) and all of them are OK. I checked the DSC harness and it's plugged in securely. Not sure why the DSC would die suddenly. Is this a common problem for E82's? Can this be fixed or does it have to be replaced?
Does the DSC system work properly? You said you have no warnings on, right? What if you press the button to turn off traction control (partial disable), and then press and hold for about 10 seconds to fully turn it off? Does it respond properly and you get the notifications in the cluster and I-drive that you've turned if off?

It turns out there is no problem with my DSC, only a problem with my brain. The first time I ran the diagnostic tests I had the key fob in the ignition but did not have terminal 15 switched on. Apparently all of the ECU's except for the DSC can be accessed without terminal 15 switched on.
As a rule of thumb...always have T15 on when talking to the modules. I've seen so many funny things reading them without over the years.
