Would be interesting to see proper draggy times if you think they are skewed. Considering S52 and small turbo 60-130 should be a strong sub 7 sec for sure

    Nice car!

Yes, I've seen your posts where you're doing high 6 seconds 60-130 and making about 550whp. Your 2.93 rear probably helps some. I'll need to test my setup some more for #science.

Don't go 420g, they shift horribly. If you can use the gs6-37bz or gs6-53bz

Advice noted. I was trying to keep things simple (and cheaper) and reuse my existing clutch if I were to swap. Did you use the 22RPD kit Mack?

I'm running a gs637bz with zionsville pilot bearing adaptor. It allows you to use a e36 m3 flywheel and pressure plate, and i have an ebay 6puck from a zhp or any non-m e46, they also use it in some z4s and some e90s as well 6 speed clutch disc. Custom trans mount as thats super easy.

The longer gear will help for 60-130, by way the da at poconos is always horrible, if you dragy at sea level youll see almost half a second improvement, also you gotta drive it a bit harder, bring it to the limiter.

Brake boost in 3rd gear around 40-45 and punch it.

Gotcha. I'll do the rear end swap first and see how things are.

Hi all. I figure this is a good time to update my thread. Here are some highlights over the past year and things to come:

    > Back in July we participated in another Racemotive roll race event at Pocono Raceway. The car performed great and surprised many. At ±25 psi, we defeated a modified C6 ZR1 along with newer Mustangs and Porsches. Here is a video clip of the race against the C6. Our best 60-130 time was 6.69 seconds (driven by Frank).

    > During the roll race event, the car was running out of gear at ±160 mph (3.23 LSD + ZF 5 speed). I am currently having a 2.93 LSD built with a 4-clutch upgrade for increased top speed. In addition, I'll be doing a GS6-53 transmission swap with a one-piece driveshaft.

    > This fall I upgraded the stock non-M front brakes with E46 330i calipers and Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. The 330 calipers were contacting the inboard end of the wheel bolts on the ACS Type 1's so I grinded down the calipers a bit and am now running a 5mm spacer for clearance (nothing is ever easy...). I also replaced the rear rotors and installed HPS 5.0 pads. The stopping power is noticeably improved.

I'm excited for next year and may even get around to re-installing the air conditioning lines! Nice to see the forum is still active (somewhat).

Great looking car man! 👍 Keep us updated on the transmission swap, it's something I have been wanting to do.

So I'm working on prepping an OBD2 harness for my turbo'd S52 that's in a 1995 M3 (so OBD1). The pin changes on X20 and the other connector are straight forward, but one thing that I haven't seen answered anywhere is the "Solenoid Valve for Running Losses". This is the valve with connector underneath the car next to the FPR on OBD2 cars. The OBD1 cars do not have this feature.

Can I just delete this connector and the tuner (I.e. RK) will do what they need to do?

I plan on gutting the OBD2 harness and removing anything unnecessary like the SAP connector and any O2 Sensor connectors that are unneeded.

I left that connector unplugged and neatly ziptied alongside the transmission.

As an update, the GS6-53 transmission swap was finished last month and I've put about 150 miles on the car since.

The swap utilized a Vader Solutions transmission crossmember, one-piece driveshaft made by Seems Legit Garage, and TTV twin disc clutch with a custom flywheel to mate up with the E36 starter. Frank did the work at his shop, for which I am very grateful because there were a lot of items that needed to be modified and made to fit. This is not a simple and direct swap. He also installed a 2.93 LSD for me while the drivetrain was apart.

The GS6 transmission is a remarkable improvement over the ZF in terms of smoothness and feel. Combined with the 2.93 rear, I can cruise at 70 mph at approximately 2,400 rpm, compared to 3,100 with the ZF 5 speed and 3.23 rear. In addition, the clutch has great engagement and pedal feel, being only slightly heavier than the DKM twin disc I had with the ZF transmission (which was nearly identical to stock pedal feel).

My only complaints are that the throw-out bearing is a little noisy and there is transmission gear rattle from the lightweight flywheel. The grear rattle is most noticeable with windows closed and at low rpm's in higher gears, or under deceleration. We're going to try a different fluid mix to try to quiet it down. I'm sure the poly trans & engine mounts aren't helping. The transmission is also now further back and closer to the top of the tunnel, causing more noise to be transmitted.

Overall, I am very happy with the swap and having a 6th gear is great! The longer gear ratios also make 1st gear usable again and has greatly improved traction in 2nd gear. Here are some photos:

Nice Rob! this seems like great upgrade.
worth it to you moneywise as it isn't as straight forward?

Thanks Elon. Yes, it is a worthwhile upgrade, especially if you have higher power, want a better factor of safety, and a decent amount of parts availability should the transmission fail. For comparison, the GS6-37 swap is definitely more straight forward but those transmissions are pretty hard to find and the 420g's are very expensive (at least right now).
