Hi,
I was considering buying a 2015 528i with less than 40k miles and FBMWSH. It’s from a non main dealer. I heard that this model engine had timing chain issues leading to some catastropic failures. I’m not sure that this would affect the 2015 model as I have also heard that BMW upgrades or modified the timing chain guide to mitigate the problem, and I’m not sure how to check. It appears to be a well known issue. I called BMW and they just said it should last the life of the vehicle. So can anyone offer any advice on whether this model has a potentially serious design issue with the timing chain,
Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere,
Thanks in advance,
Brian
All N20's have this issue.
All N20's after having -everything- replace in the timing system will have this issue again.
And again.
Don't buy a BMW if it is powered by an N20.
That is all.

My engine just died on me in my 2013 528i x drive F10 model BMW of bayside NY has it now and let me tell you that even though BMW has gratfuly offered to replace the engine and the starter they were surely surprised that i knew about the TSB that was on these engines that everybody so hush hush about. My car in the last year has made drive train malfunction trips to BMW of Bayside at least 5-6 times with them telling me that the problem was the plugs and the coils only to have the engine blow out on me on a Sunday afternoon on the conduit in Brooklyn. i thought about taking it to a different Service like maybe BMW Manhattan or maybe freeport but me trying to see if the service manager would keep his word either buying it back or working out some kind of a resolution, i didn't even get a loaner car. So here i am on foot during the holidays, sucks couldnt visit the family or see my Grandson to give him his present Tokyo Ghuul lol but i am still waiting for the car to be fixed its been about a week since its been at bayside numerous calls to the service manager angelo no help couldnt even keep his word about trying to get me a rental car. My old service advisor Greg caution stay away he is very disrespectful had to get a new advisor Mr Michael colier even though on vacation has been trying to help me with this situation deserves a promotion if your listening BMW of bayside, still waiting will keep you updated on my progress. p.s. my mileage was 68000 miles thank god the warrant for the TSB was 7 years or 70000 miles but the service at bayside has to get better customer satifaction carries along way with returning buyer hint hint BMW of bayside. i still am a fan of the ultimate performance machine. mercedez is for ladiez lmfao....
If I did research in a car and knew there was a possibility if engine issues I would never buy it
Yeah. I did my research. I wouldn’t touch a 528 or any 28i (for that matter) with a stick. Bmw is known for straight 6. It’s always been their bread and butter.
