Not here with an actual problem with my BMW,
just curious on actual service oddities' with this model/engine?
Looking for actual service techs opinions here, thanks!
What year, as I am sure some of the early production cars have different problem from the later ones.

The deafening silence has me assuming either there are no longer many BMW techs left on this forum,
or the M235i(F22) is too uninteresting to be interested in.
Or it's the weekend, and they are working on their own cars?
My son has a F-20, it is a euro only model. It reminds me of the size of an E-30, but with a bit more modern styling and such.
I for one haven't really heard much about the M235i, so that would tell me it is a pretty reliable car, for it shares the same N-55 motor across the board, just de-tuned a bit IIRC.

I have owned and maintained BMW's for twenty years and the M235i I currently own has been as reliable as all my previous ones. A very nice daily driver with lots of improvement head room.
BMW FANMAN!
The N55 in the M235i is not the same as the older ones in the 335i, etc. It actually has a forged crank and rods.
No real issues from what I've read other than blowing a charge pipe, which is easily remedied by buying aftermarket. Motor is stout and I saw one making 600+ stock internals.

Thanks Kenny - good to know,
also thanks to everyone else for their input.
If any others out there have personal experiences - let's hear them!!
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, my friend. The N55 is a decent engine, in my opinion more reliable and easier to work on than the N54.
The two series is a good sized car, with reasonably simple electronic architecture.
Let's just say that I'd MUCH rather have that car than any more expensive BMW with the horrible V8 N63 lump...worst engine BMW ever created.

Good to know you are still on this forum Chris!
I don't visit as often myself , guess I'm getting old, lol.
Seriously thinking about picking up a 2016 235i coupe, so I appreciate your input.
Sorry about the confusing thread title ,
I was trying to express the question as: Do forum members, preferably actual BMW service techs,
consider the M235i model to be more of a "Diamond in the rough" OR "Lemon best avoided" as a daily driver, according to service techs experiences with them in service bays.
Was trying to see if there is a general trend, + or - , in service history for the M235i in general , and more specifically for the 2016MY
Just attempting to gather more info and insight before a possible future vehicle search, thanks for any input!
Following.....since I have one 2016 M235
which I hope is diamond !
