I’m new to E39s, but I’m coming from the world of 2002s (E10) and BMW bikes. Anyway, I’m looking for a nice 540i with a 6 speed in orient blue (or similar dark blue) and tan interior. I’m in Atlanta, but the car can be anywhere in the US. Somewhat rare color combo I’ve been told, but hopefully someone’s got one they’d like to sell. Thanks!
The subject of your post caught my attention
I have a sorted, high miles (185k) Orient / Tan 2000 540i6 that I daily. Hadn't thought of selling it, but would be happy to have a conversation. I would want all the money for it given what I have in it and the fact that it is better sorted than most cars half the age/mileage. Also, it's a blast to drive. Sport package, 7 series heated comfort seats, rear folding rear seat (rare). Paint isn't great on fender and bumpers from bad prep paint work from PO. At some point, I will paint it.
Car has had a ton of work and is bulletproof. At 165k I did an engine out reseal, full chain assembly, heads off for new seals and guides, clutch with low mileage transmission, every hose and gasket replaced. Bilstein coilovers, refreshed front end, muffler delete, fresh powder coating on squared rear-fitment style 32's and records going back to my ownership since 2016.

Did you happen to find one? I'm in the market for a 540i as well, and I stumbled across one in orient blue with only 37,000 miles on it. It was for sale for $14,995, but by the time I reached out to the seller, it was gone. Really bummed out, because it looked in amazing condition+a manual transmission.
Hi peakcomp,
Thanks for your reply. Looks like a really nice car. The only thing that gives me pause is the paint condition. I'm going to keep looking around, but I'll keep your car in mind. You've got quite the collection! I have a '73 2002 and a '75 R90S, so the 540i will complete the trifecta!
Hi seannwalsh,
I'm still looking. I've found plenty of nice cars in gray (seems to be the most common color), but this blue is much harder to find. Where was the car you saw located? I don't think I came across that one in my search.
