1996 Z3 Should I have a remote?

The forth owner of a hellrot red Z3, It came with one key, and after buying the most expensive 2nd key I am now wondering should there also have been remotes at one stage. A check of vin online doesn't mention that as an option?

So can I buy BMW remotes to match the car?

BMW Keyless Entry/Alarms were dealer installed. If you had it installed, you'll have a box behind the glove box, and a red LED, and a Siren. Most did not have it. It will be pre-wired if yours is a US car, and you can buy the parts and add it if it does not have it.

jimmyfloyd is correct...this is a dealer installed option or the previous owner could have installed an aftermarket unit...For me my VIN search showed a code 305 "Keyless remote entry".. Its just keyless entry, no alarm....The only way to tell what you have is take out the glove box and see if you have a Keyless module (OEM or aftermarket installed).

Supposedly the 305 option is factory built in alarm and would use the remote key with the built in buttons, not the separate 2 button key fob, dealership added alarm.

I have the 305 Option but no OEM siren or LED indiactor in vehicle (Alarm)....Just keyless entry. Not sure if previous owners modified anything. Next time I remove the glove box I will have to investigate what I have.
