Oh I so wish I had a car lift.
Need to move house first, then I can get an 850 too.
The Polish rebuild service for shocks is great value for money when you look at BMW EDC prices.
Rear prices for sachs SLS/SDC replacements are cheap too.
Congrats on your new edition!
Oh if that hydraulic boot strut is intact on your donor 750 and you don't want it I will buy it from you.
The bottom eyelet in the left strut broke on mine (I think they are getting brittle with age) and BMW no longer ship them.

I emailed Hoerbiger but it was just as Europe locked down and I've not heard back.
Let's hope that does the job.
I am so ready to set this car on fire.
Found 2 old original fuel injectors that are falling apart and 10 replacement ones that are actually longer! So the 2 old ones were not sealing properly. Now I have to figure out what to do here as new injectors are over $1.000.
Valve cover gasket appears to have been glued to the head. I have no other way of explaining this.

It took me an hour of insane prying to remove the cover. I've never seen anything like this in my life. How stupid do you have to be to even think of doing this.
I hate previous owners and mechanics of this car so so much. It's absolutely incredible how mistreated this car was.
On the bright side, the engine is clean on the inside and received regular oil changes at least.

Holy fak.
Those injectors.
Glad you own this now!
Get the spec / part # on the 10 longer ones. See if the spec is even right for the car.
The longer ones are Lucas D3762FA, BMW part # 13641731357 which are for prefacelift M73, not M73n.
These don't have the stupid air-shroud thingy. I'm thinking of removing injectors from my parts car and if nothing breaks, just install them like that as I know they work. I'd send them for cleaning but given how brittle that plastic pipe is, it's better not to risk it.
Get 2 more that match?
Those won't work properly as M73N was designed to work with these stupid air-shroud injectors. This car was not idling perfect before and this might be the reason. I talked to few M70/M73 engine builders in Germany and all told me you can install normal injectors but the rpm at idle will drop and it'll effect emissions and consumption.
For now, the plan is to swap them with original injectors from my other car, that is if I manage to remove them without breaking them.

Some of that could be due to the rail not being capped, and you have 12 places where air is unmetered....
Mission accomplished.
It feels so wrong for doing this to the black E38 but these look perfect. Just going to change the bottom O-rings and install them.
Too much of a risk to try and replace the distribution hose and upper O-ring and little filter. Hoses are hard to touch but not even tiny cracks can be noted so they are staying. I'm pretty sure I'd the break the injectors if I try to remove them.

Be careful taking the old ones off - use a small pliers, or sharp knife. Don’t damage what is not broken
That is a really unique injector setup. Is there an FPR in each injector? (Hence why each injector has two lines attached to it?)
No, that is a air line. Emissions
Whaaaa? An air line that further atomizes the fuel prior to injection?!
More discussion around these injectors, and ways around it..... I

In the end, I agree. I think I will get the right seals, and get Stainless Steel braided fuel line to do the 12 elbows. taking it off the injector will be a pain.
Maybe I missed this in the thread, but that service decal on the strut tower says this was a Japan spec car. / Before it was exiled to Dubai....

Yes, originally sold new in Japan.
Finally got around installing the rear springs.
I first installed them with the adapter for rough road package and it was insanely high. This is after driving it back and forth.
So I removed the adapters and it's riding on reinforced springs now. Length wise, they are the same as the standard springs that I removed.
Now it sits like this. Albeit still on the high side but at least it doesn't look broken in the rear and it matches the front. Also, front and rear springs are brand new so it should settle some more once I actually start driving it.
For now it will stay like this.

Looks a lot better, now put a couple of bags of cement in the trunk - that'll settle her a bit........
Couldn't leave it alone.
This time I tried standard springs (the ones that were sitting very low) and added rough road package adapters on the top.
Looks like this is the winning combination.
The rear ride height is pretty much perfect now.
A bit later, I'll lower the front with Eibach springs but first I want to see how it rides with the current setup.
