Nice work.

The more I work on this car the less I respect German engineering.

Damn I wish I had that kind of headroom in my garage.
New member and I've just found this thread. Wow, what a worker; I just wish my garage could do the jobs in the same time-scale as your videos
Just love that lift but shouldn't the pillars be bolted into the floor to stop them possibly spreading apart?
Howdy. Been a while but I'm back working on E38. I'm done with most of the mechanical work and next week it's the big chapter in this car's life as the time has come for German TÜV and to finally get this car road legal.
My biggest issue right now is that I really hate the way this E38 sits. It drives great, the ride is comfy but it looks butt ugly.
I'll be getting Eibach 30 mm springs to lower the front and this hopefully won't ruin the ride comfort, but I have no idea what to do about the rear. These are stock spring with Bilstein shocks and the rear is simply too low.
Any input welcomed.
I have changed rear ride height on some seven's with mercedes front spring rubbers. W123/124/210. They usually match pretty nicely on rear spring.

Excellent. Glad you are getting back to the 7. Will this be featured on the channel soon?
On the ride height: no good suggestions here. If it makes you feel any better you cant really tell in the first pic. (That probably doesnt help at all )
Its quite odd you have a fairly conventional setup with such a lopsided look. I would have guessed a half assed spring chop job or something.
I looked it up, it doesn't seem like it would be enough.
Yeah, this will be the next video. I got a lot more than, had to change the flex disc, CSB, rear swing arm bushings, tires, refurbished front headlights, new rear taillights, spark plugs, distributor caps, belt & pulleys, A/C compressor pulley, PS pump, fixed the majority of interior...
Springs are new so it's not that. Starting to think this is probably the reason why all 750iL's have SLS in the rear.
How much you wanna go up? I think thickest rubber was 18mm. As it also stiffens the preload on spring little bit, it will make quite a lot of difference.

I would wait on the rear until you get the front springs in.
See this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNk4B_zNBQk
I found an answer for raising the rear end: poor road package!
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=33_0448
I need to get new springs that are for poor road package and from the diagram #7, #8 and #13. Adapter #13 will make the biggest difference and actually raise the rear.

Did you keep the sls? If you did, I dont think that solution works. No sls, this might be the solution.
Great work and videos. Enjoyed the story. Ah, to be young and flexible, changing my front end was much more painful and I was filthy at the end of each day. But now you ruined it for me by getting a lift.
Typical Germans...clean garage. Mine looks like a bomb of BMW parts exploded in it.
I don't think the rear is normal? Did someone put in non-stock springs and shocks? Also, I know the V12 is heavier, but maybe consider Sport springs instead of the Eibach, they were engineered for the 740i Sport and are lower up front. Rear are stiffer ride, but same height as standard 740i/iL.
Here's my ride height, stock 740i Sport
Here is my older 740iL with Sport springs. I would think the 750iL will sit about the same. Ride in this car was still very nice, even with the Sport springs about 20% stiffer than standard.

It has standard Bilstein shocks front and rear, previous owner reused EDC springs which are not compatible (i showed and talked about this in previous posts) so I installed standard springs but as you can see the height is all over the place. 740iL and 750iL sit differently.
As I mentioned, there's a reason why all 750iL's have SLS in the rear from the factory.
M-Sport springs are not compatible with Bilstein shocks - https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...7#post28110507
The height of the front is affected ( to a small degree by the height of the rear. and the rear looks low by quite a bit - at least an inch.
Huh, I did not know that about Bilstein, my shocks are all starting to fade on the DINAN Sport and was thinking about Bilstein, off to Plan B.
The Calypso Red e34 in my profile photo was purchased in Frankfurt, DE, at the BMW Military Car Sales in the summer of 1994, my wife picked the color, and I'm glad she did. Ordered and paid for it, had it shipped to Houston, TX, in Nov 1994 (its a 1995 model), and its still in the family after 256,000 miles. Did a complete rebuild on it 3 years ago.

I posted in another thread about springs. Check - search Flickr / Buck Clifford - his v12 has UUC front springs and stock rear / all 4 corners edc
