Sounds like you need to downbadge the car to a 518i or something so it's less targeted lol.
    Yeah. I was quite surprised.

    518. Lol.

Get a little peashooter exhaust pipe to really complete the ‘look’.

This happened in Seattle, I can't believe it. Eye roll. Looking forward to this thread. What does the to-do list look like?

    Hahaha.

I ended up disassembling it in a fit of rage and dumping it in the trash. Just to make sure some crack head didn’t happen upon it and get the same idea.

Awesome pics! Your wheel spacing fitment looks perfect too, are you using spacers on the front and rear, or are those wheels one of the lower offset versions of the M-parallel?

    Ooh, nice!

How ironic - they came to take valuable scrap metal, and left you some (less) valuable scrap metal instead.

I'm impressed that the 27-28 year old tilt sensor did its job. If I were in your place, I'd've removed it ages ago and come to regret it. Then again, where I live, people don't call 911, they call 811.

    Thx!

I’ll have to see if I can find the pics I took of the backsides, but its just a square set of e38 fronts I picked up off a guy in Portland who had originally purchased them for an e36 project he was planning on.

I know! Likely the only actual theft a car alarm has ever prevented. In the history of the entire world.

Beautiful pics and glad your alarm worked! Like you said probably the only time one has ever been useful.

...Cue flashbacks to life in NYC in the early-mid 90's: car alarms and cockroaches - similarly ubiquitous, pleasant, and useful.

As somebody that was born and raised in NYC (lived there til 2014), I completely ignored car alarms because at night all you would hear were car alarms, police sirens, and honking.

Went a little detail crazy a couple of weeks back. Took some time to try to get the hang of a DA polisher, and then finished it all up with a ceramic coat. It turned out nice, but didn’t grab pics, and then the car had to sit outside and now its gross again. Lol.

I did rip off all the trim though, which gave me a chance to clean underneath it, as well as polish it up. Finally got everything back on.

    New clips and all:

Also took the opportunity to polish out the rear glass. It has some sort for really aggressive etching on it which was quite a PITA to get out. But it came out pretty nice. Finished that up with some new window trim as the old stuff was pretty crispy.

Looks great! Are the rear window trims as expensive as the fronts?

    Unfortunately yes. :/

The snap in pretty satisfactorily though. Lol.

Wow your car looks so damn clean! Any tips for getting that rear window trim off? Were you able to remove it without breaking any of the mounting clips that straddle the edge of the glass?

    Thanks!

    Nope. Every single one snapped.

I was able to get new clips installed without having to remove the glass. A small mod of the clip was required though in order to get it installed properly and in the right place. Happy to go into more details for anyone facing a similar situation.

Seriously though, if it was dry enough at some point to be able to take pictures that could possibly capture it. I will!

I'm curious. When I removed and reinstalled my windshield trims, I actually removed the clips altogether and just stuck them to the glass with 3M VHB. It's the right thickness and holds well, but I've always felt the trim was more annoying than just not having it (or using an aftermarket rubber gasket like some glass shops will do).

Would you mind explaining what you modified on the clips to make them fit? I am in the process of replacing the windshield trim on my M sport and am having a hard time seating the new clips
