Today was pretty exciting. This guy showed up!
The search for a top notch seattle body shop is on!!
Looks like it was make back in 2011. Had to come in from Germany:
Nothing better!

Nice! Do you plan on painting the whole car a different color, or are you keeping the stock paint?

Definitely keeping it arktisgrau. Its grown on me. I like the slightly blue-ish tint it has. We’ll see what the body shop thinks about all the various spots on the car that need attention. I know metallics can be a b to get looking right if you’re only painting a few spots.
Haury's body shop on Lake City Way is great. Owners are enthusiasts.

Yep. Luckily no rust here. I really feel for the midwest and NE guys with car addictions. Don’t know if I could do it if cancer was all over the place.
Feels good there are other 540/6 guys out there who want to keep these things alive. Makes me feel better about the insanity of doing it thanks!!!

Hello triple trouble @a777fan --- if you are willing to take the next step and source hides for an upholsterer who is willing to cut the hide into patterns for your seats, you might want to try https://www.leatherhidestore.com/sho...=1&closeouts=2
When I reupholstered my sport beetle, my upholster sourced hides from this place above. :-)
I picked up a CD43 last fall during an ebay ‘sale’. Only recently installed it and started enjoying it with the way the cars been ‘under the knife’. The CD mechanism was skipping. The seller was great to work with and ended up fixing the unit for free for me. Given the amount of time that had passed since purchase, I thought it was a nice gesture.
Popped it back in today and it works like a charm.
I originally had intended to keep the tape player, but ended up going with this. Will likely also hook up a bluetooth input at some point.
I need to see if there is anything I can do about the unit sitting proud. I think the bezel is slightly too thick, but I haven’t proven it.
OMG CAKE!!!!!! We're in parallel universes. I've been rediscovering the track "Frank Sinatra" over the past couple of days! Love the part 30 seconds into the beginning when it goes from super-mono to super-stereo. But of course, via Becker, not via BMW Business CD (is this an Alpine?)
jlaa glad you’re still here! I almost sent you the photo independently, as I had a feeling you’d appreciate it. I really do love this album. It brings back the memory of my morning drive to HS in my buddies toyota corolla, ‘the distance’ endlessly queued of course.
The CD43 is actually a blaupunkt unit!

Today i tidied up a few bits and put all the beauty covers back on the engine.
Picked up the heater valve cover and two of the nuts to replace the two non-standard ones. The cover clips on to the nuts, so they are required if you want to run it.
Replaced the yellowed cable clips for the cruise control.
Then replaced the engine trims, and installed the new bolt covers I got. The main cover is cracked around two of the bolt locations, but the plastic is stiff enough that I was able to re-align the fractures such that they are less visible.
The less you can see of those valve covers, the better
I’m looking into powdercoating them, but the process is almost as pricey as new ones, and still comes with caveats from the shop indicating that they can’t guarantee further issues with the coating since its a magnesium alloy.
Anyone have any experience with new covers from BMW? Wondering if there was ever any improvement in the manufacturing techniques, or if they would end up looking identical to these POS’es after a couple years.
Another request of someone if they have a moment: can you take a picture of the cable holder on the upper left of the radiator? I have the right holder, but the rivet I am using doesn’t seem to work correctly, and the clip just pulls out.
Sorry about the crappy ipotato pics. I swear the quality of this camera is degrading. Might have something to do with the fact that it continuously falls/drops out of my pocket onto the concrete while I’m working. LOL!
It's the same clip as that top corner of the fan shroud shown in the pic. At least it is on mine and it doesn't wobble.

ignore the broken corner on my fan shroud, it's on "the list" !

I just replaced those cruise cable clips too!

I found someone selling a powder-coated pair on ebay a couple of years ago, for less than I could get mine done, and without the time off the road, and so far, they're fine. But I don't know what preparation process was used. I don't see why them being magnesium should be an issue. I'd talk to a few powder-coaters and see what they say.
Is the other pipe on your bracket for the brake servo? Mine being RHD it has a hydraulic booster run off the power steering pump.
