The FOXWELL NT510 PRO is highly recommended by the techs in the General BMW Mechanical Help sub-forum. It's been updated and is now called the NT520. Is around $150.

Regardless of what device you get, avoid any that provide P-codes. Those same techs suggest that P-codes are too generic to be truly helpful.

What sort of problems are you having? If they are engine related I recommend OBDFusion. However, if they are in other systems then the Foxwell unit is fine.
