Car seat help X3

I am thinking of getting the 2019 X3. We are planning on having kids soon so I need the car to work for the next several years. Does anyone have experience using a rear facing seat behind one of the front seats, not in the middle seat. I am not concerned about myself as I am 5’3” but more for my husband. The middle seat is not an option because of the dog.
