Had to use a few different parts diagrams, but hopefully I got all the possible offending hoses:
Expansion tank hose:
372126806994
Heater hoses:
64211384763
64211382641
64211388930
64211379963
I also took this opportunity to buy the timing chain tensioner gasket and protective cap, to finally address that leak. I would have bought the timing chain tensioner piston and spring themselves, but apparently BMW is now charging $50 for the piston and $20! for a 2 cent spring. I will most likely purchase them before doing the job though.

Note that the heater valves and auxiliary waterpump have plastic hose bungs that can crack and snap off. My 544's auxiliary waterpump failed catastrophically the first time I gave it a hard drive.

Ran it it hard on the freeway beforehand, and then before the test filled the tank with a little less than a gallon of denatured alcohol. All numbers looked great, although the high speed hydrocarbons were close, but it passed. Much better than the test before, that’s for sure!
Now to register the car and get it on the road!

The low CO and slightly high HC numbers suggest less-than-perfect fuel atomization with all else relatively ok. Is it still misfiring?
Agreed Altair, driving is the best thing you can do for a car like this. I'll have to check into that kit you describe, voltage could be better in my book.
To your point Moroza, it is indeed still misfiring. I think the denatured alcohol did the heaving lifting here to reduce hydrocarbons.
I'm inclined to get the injectors tested, cleaned, and flow matched. Get a gauge on the fuel pressure; and I'll probably order a new fuel filter tonight.
I want to be able to at least eliminate for certain one part of the air/fuel/ignition equation. My money for the misfire is electrical though, but plug wires are good and all the other essentials are new (sans ignition coils).
Just a new voltage regulator with new brushes, also check the wire between B+ and the alternator, that is a problem on M70 engines, see my website http://twrite.org/shogunnew/fixes/electricalpower.html
Hella Voltage regulator for the Bosch alternator for M30 and M70 engines I still have some new ones, just in case you cannot find one, for 28mm slipring.

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Thanks Shogun! I have replaced both the voltage regulator, and upgraded the alternator to thick welding wire following your instructions.
13.8 V should be o.k., the M70 alternator does not go that high. http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1258588
I assume you installed it correct, here one problem case http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/723700
and the solution : Eureka! I found the problem, now I can go and kick myself in the A$$! http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/726562

Considering what injectors cost, I wonder if it'd be cost-effective to get 4-hole M30-fitment ones and an electronic solution to tweak the flow rate?
Moroza you read my mind. I wonder if the MAF is calibrated to injector rate though. Elsewise, I figure the DME could adapt from #14 to #17, yeah? M30 4 holes are pennies on the dollar, comparatively.
Also, went on a little side quest and got myself down the rabbit hole of exhaust mods. Ended up in the 8 series forum reading about a guy who fitted a y pipe from the cats, into a 3 inch single, into a Ferrari 599 muffler. The sound is glorious, take a listen:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UeED_c2XvNc
And his thread on the research behind his choice here:
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...s-on-my-850-Ci
I know my priorities are skewed, but I found an ‘09 599 right side muffler, all banged up but no holes or rust, for the low low price of 200 obo on eBay. One price offer later, and for $136 shipped to my door, I will be the proud owner of a dented Ferrari 599 muffler. I am betting on the fact that these dents will not impede the function of the muffler. All other comparable mufflers are 1000+ EACH, so if it works it would be quite the steal. But I digress. Ideally, I would have a complex system, with cutouts and extra pipes, to have a stock muffled sounds, and a loud button when I want to be raucous. However, that is much less cost effective than what I presume will be a cheap job of a flange, single pipe, and my $136 muffler. All should be easily reversible.
As I understand it, the car should be quiet enough with no drone, under 3k and not WOT. Above that, an actual v12 soundtrack to accompany the motor. The only difference between the two setups would be that the E32 is single exit, while the E31 a dual exit. I’m willing to spend the money and see if the results are comparable. I think half the character of the car is the quietness, and while cruising I agree. But if I want to hustle it, the world should know

Tried to update the prior message, somehow managed to delete it.
Here is a link to adjustable voltage kit, will get one when the time comes:
https://www.240turbo.com/AdjustableVoltage.html
That's probably the best M7x song I've heard (nice-looking car too); I'd always been disappointed by their sound compared to other 12-bangers. I would expect dents to affect the sound but not drastically. Priorities, yes

Well my Ferrari muffler arrived, although I’m going to hold off on that for the moment to focus on some more pressing matters:
First and foremost, got the car registered, and have been driving it, which is a ton of fun! This thing is just alive on the freeway, you kick it down to pass someone and before you know it you’re going 100. Just smooth power that seemingly never ends. Need to address some more issues though, especially the not so confidence inspiring suspension. Also, I am hoping my gas gauge is just off, as it is reading a quarter tank within 200 miles since the last fill up. Which to me, is insane for a 26 gallon tank. Anyways, here’s how it sits currently:
F74D64CD-97EE-4FED-B6C1-1F30E881D8F7.jpg
Also, added another car to the fleet, which although not a 7 is a close relative:
6A81E828-8523-49E9-9856-91A69CCDB89D.jpg
I’ll let my picture do the explaining, but in short it’s a 1995 540i Msport, 1 of 205 I believe. So another project for another day. Might need to thin out the fleet a bit here, all non BMWs are currently on the chopping block. Hopefully more progress to come for the 750!

Thank you! I need another car like a hole in my head, but sometimes it’s too good a deal to pass up!
Anywho, went ahead and replaced the heater hoses. This was the worst job I’ve done to date. Tightening the hose clamps was a mental and physical pain.

After all that was said and done... still have a small coolant leak. I’ve been driving the car regularly, and have checked the coolant daily. It’s really an insignificant leak, so I check it and fill it up if necessary (hasn’t been necessary yet).
Ordered a rear suspension refresh kit, so pitman arms, sway bar endlinks, sway bar bushings, and poly subframe mounts. After this is onto the front, been thinking about maybe a Meyle front end kit, even though I’m firmly in the Lemforder camp. I’ve heard good things for the price though, so we will see.

Two ideas:
UV dye and a blacklight.
Cooling pressure tester.

Talk about a priority shift. Was my fault, slammed on the brakes but didn’t stop in time. Guys truck looks fine... That’s my main concern, as far as insurance. Guy said we can do it outside of insurance, so hoping he comes through with that, and hoping for no unseen damage. After that, I’ll think about fixing the 7. The hit was high enough where it pushed in my core support, but the important stuff seems to be intact and undamaged.
Very upset with myself, but it was a good life lesson.

Aw man! Thats a bummer.
Glad everyone is ok, though. And super glad it wasnt the 540!!!

Appreciate it, everyone was ok, airbags didn’t even go off so that was good. I was coming to stop, the truck just more or less expedited that. I was thinking about where it would have hit if I was in my lower 535i, or the 540i even. Didn’t like the idea of that!
Coincidentally, I had called someone that is selling their e32 shell. If all goes well with insurance, this car won’t be down for long hopefully. Radiator shroud is still intact, fan intact, nothing mechanical seemed to be broken, although it’s squidshed up there. Hoping for a new radiator core support to fix that issue. The car certainly doesn’t deserve this to be the end

should be repairable with some parts from an E32 shell, hood and some parts between left and right fenders front, all easy to exchange.
