Im gonna try to change all the vacuum pods on my automatic HVAC system just wondering if anybody did this before Thanks for any Help !!!
Nope, no one on here has swapped them. We all gave up.
Search, you can read upon this subject for weeks. Dash stays in, I would pull it IF your HVAC box leaks.
I make E23 parts.

When I had my E23, there was a problem I had twice over the eight year period I had the car. No matter what I did the flaps stayed in a position that had all my air coming out of the defroster vents. It boiled down to a small black T connector that was under the area outside under the passenger side windshield wiper. When that connector cracks or leaks the flaps stay in that position. Just an old thought.

Thank you so such for taking time to post this suggestion! My '78 e23 was having the same issue, where it would blow air through the defrost vents but not the dash vents. I was ready to take apart the dash in search of the problem when I found this thread. I checked in the area under the right wiper and sure enough there was a disintegrated plastic tee. Replaced the tee and my car now has working air conditioning.

I'm having the same issue as the OP, but I'm also having an issue with the microswitch; the a/c doesn't always turn on.
Could a bad microswitch cause the air to blow out of the defrost vents? Or to switch from blowing out the defrost vents only to sometimes blowing out the defrost vents and out the main vents, though weakly most times?
Thanks.
your right I looked under there and it looks rediculous it gonna be easier to pull the dash, in the repair manual it really doesnt say but there is a picture of the dash and its mounting screws so go figure BMW must mean remove the dash !!! thanks hitman
No. The microswitch controls whether the blower fan switches on or not, that's it.Could a bad microswitch cause the air to blow out of the defrost vents?
