    Thumbs up

Nope, no one on here has swapped them. We all gave up.

Search, you can read upon this subject for weeks. Dash stays in, I would pull it IF your HVAC box leaks.
    I make E23 parts.

I don't have any Freon leak or any thing all the automatic HVAC & Heater system work , just vacuum leaks when I drive if I accelerate the vent go to defrost and I already checked and changed the check valve put a new hella vac pump the pump runs all the time and I checked the vacuum storage tank and no leaks it's probably in the dash somwere Im Figuring the pods are leaking or the vac solenoids are leaking ,I think I might try a smoke machine Thanks for any help . does anyone have a picture of an automatic a/c housing JIM>

Maybe unplug that pump until the vacuum issue is resolved. It will burn out.

When I had my E23, there was a problem I had twice over the eight year period I had the car. No matter what I did the flaps stayed in a position that had all my air coming out of the defroster vents. It boiled down to a small black T connector that was under the area outside under the passenger side windshield wiper. When that connector cracks or leaks the flaps stay in that position. Just an old thought.

Thank you so such for taking time to post this suggestion! My '78 e23 was having the same issue, where it would blow air through the defrost vents but not the dash vents. I was ready to take apart the dash in search of the problem when I found this thread. I checked in the area under the right wiper and sure enough there was a disintegrated plastic tee. Replaced the tee and my car now has working air conditioning.

Glad that was a help. Actually I threw that in here having nothing to do with the vacuum pods. I didn't even know what they were. Happy you were able to make the fix.

I'm having the same issue as the OP, but I'm also having an issue with the microswitch; the a/c doesn't always turn on.

Could a bad microswitch cause the air to blow out of the defrost vents? Or to switch from blowing out the defrost vents only to sometimes blowing out the defrost vents and out the main vents, though weakly most times?

    Thanks.

I also have this issue. Air only blows out of defroster and slightly out of the side window defrosters. Is that also a pod issue?

No. The microswitch controls whether the blower fan switches on or not, that's it.
