    Going after that last leak

Well, today I replaced my power steering reservoir and hoses. Now I need to go after the last leak that I have detected, the coolant pipes under the manifold. I wasn't looking forward to doing this job, not because it's time consuming, but because of the cost once you've addressed all of the "while you're in there" items. About the only thing I've decided not to replace is the ping sensor ($116). Here is a list of what I plan to replace. Let me know what you think and if I may have forgotten anything.

    CCV valve 11617501566 $78

    Vent pipe 11611432559 $25.25

    Connecting line 11617504535 $45

    Vent hose 11157532649 $32.75

    Crankcase vent pipe 11617504536 $38.50

    Vacuum hose 11727545323 $14.75

    Throttle body gasket 13547504729 $9

    Intake manifold gasket 11611436631 $49.25

    Water pipe 11537502525 $75

    Heater inlet pipe 11531705210 $31.50

    Vacuum pump line 11727574490 $42.25

    Double temp switch 13621703993 $23.50

The associated O-rings for the pipes are included with them at purchase, so I didn't include them in the list. Also, I will be replacing ALL of the generic 3.5mm vacuum lines under the manifold. What didn't I think of?

I didn't look up the p/n's, are you using the cold weather CCV parts?

    hiss by my window
scratch the temp switch, not a wear item.
At least one of the larger vac hoses can be replaced with plain bulk hose, no need for the $$ molded one.
If you've not done the oil filter housing gasket do it now.
    Have fun

Well, with over 100 views, it looks like the only thing that I forgot was the oil filter housing gasket. Thanks ross1 for the reminder. I guess I'll place the order today so I can start work next Monday.

So when I went to place my order at Pelican I found a cold climate CCV kit (Genuine BMW) that includes the CCV and both cold climate hoses (not including the one to the dipstick tube) for a total of $45. The CCV alone is $78 and the hoses are $45 and $27.50 respectively. $150.50 in parts are included in the $45 kit. Yes, I called Pelican to confirm these prices and that there is no catch.

And the parts will be here by Friday in time to do the work over the weekend for only $5.50 shipping. That's why I love Pelican!

So now after about two months of ownership I am at a grand total of $5727 including the original purchase price of $3700. That's $1699 in parts, shipping, and tax, with labor performed by me, and $328 for PDR performed by McDowel's Specialty Repair in Boise, ID. McDowel's does flawless work BTW. Aside from a 1/4" hole that they drilled and capped in the door, you would never know that the whole door had had a crease down its entire length.
