    Intermittent whine sound coming from engine?

    1997 BMW M3 Manual, has a Intermittent whine sound when parked but goes away when I drive, could this be coming from the belt tensioner?

    Belt tensioner would be my first guess. Take off the belts, run it for 30 seconds max because you're not pushing any water, and see if the sound goes away. Those pulleys should be replaced anyway. I found one that made no noise, but by feel was obviously in bad shape.
