Thread: BOV open. Help

    BOV open. Help

    Went to a blow thru from draw thru MAF so can now vent to atmo.
    BOV seems to be open more than I would have thought and it’s annoying, sounds like a Hoover.
    At cruising speed 30mph maybe 25% throttle(guess)the valve is open. Do I have too much vacuum?
    Engine is M54B30 Vortech SC 14# boost calculated @5500.

    Valve is a Tial QRJ 2# spring

    max vacuum is at idle and the springs should be picked based on that vacuum.

    your spring is too light if it opens a cruise.
    hook up a pressure gauge and see what you pull at idle then chose the springs.

    Thanks Robocop. My vac gauge reads 16inHg at warmed up idle.
    Means I need an 8 or 7# spring whereas right now I have a 3# spring.

    What other than I need a heavier spring does that tell you about my motor?

    nothing really.
    the spring is too weak to hold down that small amount of boost you make part throttle.
    different tunes and engines will idle at different vacuums.
    i like to tune idle to give the strongest vacuum. mine is about -13 inhg

    it is important to run the recommended 1/4'' vac hose or there will be lag.

    just wondering when you rev it does the valve slam shut until u let off or does it kinda stay open?

    Yes it slams shut.
    If I lift just the slightest it flutters.

    I have contacted Tial about a heavier spring.

    Hose is 1/4"

    Edit. Do you mean rev when at a standstilll (not under load)?. If so, yes the valve stays open.

    Just as a conclusion.
    I recieved a heavier spring 8# from Tial. Valve still opens during cruising but not as much.
    Could go to a heavier spring still but want to be sure I do not get compressor surge on uplift.
