I have a 2001 x5 4.4i with the following codes with check engine light and strong gas fumes where should i start?
1a mixture control, off idle cylinder #1-4
1b mixture control, off idle cylinder #5-8
1d mixture control, idle cylinder #5-8
Bc dmtl large leak
8d engine cooling fan control

Smoke test to identify all vacuum leaks (I bet there are many), inspection of fuel system for leaks, and check cooling fan for function.

yup, i'd smoke test and test the evap system for functionality and leaks, and smoke test the intake as well.
test cooling fan with a bi-directional scanner....
