Are there any double DIN heads that integrate with the car's OBC system?
Hi,
There are, but they're all the replacement Chinese/ low quality units. None of the premium high quality brands do such a head unit with OBC support.
What level of quality and reliability are you wanting for your head unit?
Those who have fitted these units, have got OBC information showing and you do need to do some software installation and hardware connections etc and then some configuring to have it work, there's nothing that's an easy straight plug n play and works directly.
If you want excellent sound quality, reliability, consistent performance and the latest features and technology, then a chinese unit isn't going to be a good choice as the chances of issues/problems is quite high. That said, you 'might' get a good unit, it's a gamble really.
If you don't mind losing/not having the OBC displayed directly on a high quality head unit, then a unit from the premium brands is the best value for money overall.
That all said, I have been doing some more Research into finding a solution where I can have the OBC information displayed on a premium brand head unit. I will make a specific thread once I know more here on this forum.
Cheers, Dennis!
Thanks. I have an S54 swapped Touring that is drive just occasionally. I have a very good double din in it now, but no wheel controls. Sort of a PIA. THAT is the priority. I already have XM instaled in the car and just move it from vehicle to vehicle. Since i have an aux input, i can access Pandora through that. More bells and whistle are not needed, as i use Navigator on the phone.
Worse comes to worse, I'll find a later model E46 Business radio with aux input and use that.
Just get a steering wheel adapter if that's all you are missing?
Snapon what make and model of DD head unit is in the car? As noted, perhaps you could add the steering wheel controls interface.
I googled a bit. Seems there are specific interfaces. Racing this weekend, so will check the head tomorrow.
