Stuttering while cruising and ABS issue

    Hi,
    I have a 330ci Clubsport (manual).

Over the last week or so a couple of issues have surfaced. I don't know if they're connected or not. I have no dash lights on and diagnostics isn't really showing anything other than an O2 sensor issue post cat (which I've had for a long time now and the car has been fine). The car has had a stage 1 remap about 3 months ago.

    1) Under acceleration, even in 3rd or 4th, the traction control light will flicker. Coupled with this the ABS can occasionally kick in even with the slightest touch on the pedal. That is to say the pedal vibrates. Other times is may do this under braking when there is no real chance or reason for the wheels to want to lock. 70-80% of the time whilst braking it feels normal.

    2) Whilst cruising in 5th on the motorway, the car is occasionally stuttering for a few seconds. It's intermittent and might do it once or twice every 1-2 miles. The MPG needle waves around a little while this is happening, but the rev counter needle is normal. The only thing I have check so far is the DISA valve which looks just fine. Checked the intake for vacuum leaks but can't seem to see any.

I have driven with DSC fully disabled and both things (even the ABS feel on the pedal) still happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.fr_143.jpg

What tool did you use to scan the car? Most scanners scan the engine management computer (DME). It doesn’t sound like you have an engine issue but an ABS system related issue. You’re going to have to the car to a shop that specializes in bimmers as you need to have BMW proprietary software to scan the ABS system. Also, have the shop scan the DME as there may be codes that a generic scanner won’t see. Lastly, does the car drive straight on the highway (errr motorway)? The alignment of these cars needs to be very close to the factory specs or else the stability control system will start intervening.

I used INPA. BMW dealer level software. Also did a full scan with a genuine Autel MD808 Pro scanner.

Yeah car drives straight. Had wheel alignment done a month or so ago after fitting new Eibach B12 Sportline suspension.
Car has been fine up until a return journey 2 days ago.

    Two Z3 Roadsters
As you have INPA already, check the center position of the steering angle sensor. It may be off center after the wheel alignment.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.

What Muzz has written. The DSC system on these cars is very finicky when it comes to its inputs.

OK I had the car out for another long run yesterday and it turns out that the stuttering only occurs when I let the car coast and even that's only at higher speeds such as motorway driving. So I can be cruising at 70mph and as long as I have some throttle applied, all feels ok. As soon as I lift off throttle, she stutters all the time she's coasting and slowing down. There is also some booming sound coming from the rear (back pressure?). Weak injector maybe ? Vacuum leak? Dodgy MAF sensor ? I dunno.

Since you have INPA, lets have a look at the live data, it will show if anything is acting dodgy by the counter going into the red zone. If you see everything in the green zone, switch screens as there are 2-3 different menus to look at.
