I have a 2007 328i sedan with overheating issues. I dont drive far on a daily basis maybe 20 miles round trip. I fist noticed when at a stop my a/c began to blow warm. Having had that issue previously, I immediately suspected the fan. Checked it and fan was running fine. It would kick on and off like it should. Following a couple of days drove about 5 min to McDonalds and temp light came on. Parked and let it cool down then drove home. Had my Indy check it out while out of town and he told me my water pump was gone. Had him replace water pump and thermostat since he was down there. He ran the car after filling and bleeding the system and the fan went out. Ordered a new fan and had him put it in. Spent about $850 on all the parts so not cheap aftermarket parts. Drove it for the next day no problem but warm air at idle still present. He checked my a/c and said it had too much freon, so he brought it back to the appropriate level. Ran the car today, good air no problems til I was sitting in the drive through and warm air started blowing. Pulled out and the temp light comes back on. Pulled over popped the hood and the fan isn't turning. So I sat and let it cool down, drove it back to work which was about 2 minutes away at best. I checked the fuses for the fan and temp. On my car it's F67, F69 respectively. Also checked the a/c fuse F60 and all are good. Car is sitting at work currently, will have it towed home tomorrow. Really need to get this car up and running I have a flight out of Dallas on Monday which is a 2 hour drive. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cant for the life of me understand why it's still overheating. I'm going to check the fan again tonight but cant fathom why it wouldn't be working it's only 2 days old.
Check for fault codes, is the fan coming on high speed randomly?
You may need to find a new mechanic. An E90 with overheating issues shouldn't be hard to fix at all. Is he a BMW specialist? Or just a generic shop? Did he bleed the system properly after the repairs he made? There's a procedure for it. Is he scanning for fault codes with a capable BMW specific scan tool? You've spent a ton of money at his shop for repairs, and your car is still having the same issue. Take it back. Or cut your losses and find someone who knows what they're doing.

Find a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers at www.bimrs.org.
i guess you are referring to pusher fan in front of radiator having a 2 speed sensor and runs if aircon is turned on. there is test for it in bentley. your viscous fan has a test also.
i replaced most of my engine compartment coolant hardware recently and still want to bleed more because level in coolant tank is still 2 inches low when cold.
An E90 doesn't have a mechanical fan with a fan clutch. An electric fan only. Thanks for trying to help, but you may not have the experience with this particular engine.

Yes, he is a good mechanic. Been working on BMW's for 15 years, owns 3 of them and works as a big rig mechanic for his daily job. I trust him as he's taken care of my car since I bought it about 7 years ago. Doesn't charge me much for labor either.
Sorry for the late responses. I've been on vacay for the last 2 weeks. I ended up renting a car to make the trek. But yes, the cooling fan. I did go home and run the car to see if the fan would kick on and it did. So I just replaced the engine coolant temp sensor figuring maybe it was the problem since everything else is new. Just ran it this past weekend about 80 miles one way and everything was good. Drove it today and got into Houston downtown at the parking garage and the temp light came on again. I'm completely at a loss.
Like I said previously, find a new mechanic. Don't just keep throwing parts at it. Scan for fault codes with a real BMW specific scan tool, not a cheap, generic OBD II scanner

So I took my car to a reputable shop I've used before in Houston. Elite Bmers and Benzes. Had them run a diagnostic, car threw no codes, fan is coming on, no stored fault codes, no blockages, plenty of coolant, no leaks. They let my car run for 20-30 min and was unable to get it to overheat. Yet if I'm idling in traffic, air blows warm/outside temp and the temp light is coming on. So, now that I've taken to another mechanic, any ideas??
www.bimrs.org. The shop has to face all the proprietary BMW software to properly diagnose your problem.
I’m suspicious of any shop that has a “fancy” name such as “elite.”
