So my vanos has been making noise for few months and I had it checked out my car mechanic who said I would need full rebuild but rebuilding my vanos can mess up my timing chains so I don't really know if I should or not any idea if is true
Get a second opinion.

If the VANOS rebuild is just the seals and fitting anti-rattle rings, then your timing will not be altered. Easy job to do
Should the rebuild extend to the "spline" parts (cog, wheel and cups), then yes the timing will be altered and you will need special tools to reset the timing.
I suggest doing the seals and anti-rattle rings as a first step. Cheap and easy to do. Read up on it at http://www.beisansystems.com/

The straight six VANOS is not likely to make noise. The V8's often do as the shorter cams have irregular rotational loads. They come off of one set of valves, rotate with zero resistance for 30 degrees or so and then bump into another pair of valves. The I6 has enough lobes on each cam to keep valve spring forces balanced. How did you determine that was the source of the noise?
Yes the six cylinder BMW engines will VANOS rattle. That's why there are anti-rattle rings available for when you do a VANOS seal replacement. I recently had to replace the spline parts of the VANOS to get rid of a really bad VANOS rattle in an M52TUB engine with 112,00 miles.

I did the Beisan Systems seals and I’m no mechanic by any means and it was pretty easy. No timing issues whatsoever. Do it as part of changing the valve cover gasket and see if that doesn’t do the trick.
