Top Rear Shock Spring Pads On Bottom?

Car in a shop having Koni Sport shocks put on the rear end of the 540... I supplied what I thought were all the parts for this job but the lower spring pads didn't get shipped... The shop said the existing pads were crumbled to nothing but the uppers were OK and I supplied new uppers so he said he thought they could fit the uppers in the bottom position being the same diameter...

Just to say I asked can anyone see a problem with this? There's no conceivable way the spring could hop out or slip off the perch is there?

I did this deliberately when overhauling my rear suspension, because the uppers are a bit softer (I also used E32 front upper spring pads for the same reason). The only problem I forsaw was water pooling around the low end of the spring, so I trimmed the rubber.

The spring pads are only there to stop squeaks. Every other car I've had didn't have any.

I think its a good balance between the original touring comfort and a more responsive damper.. Hated Bilstein sports and so other than KYB you have the SACHS-BOGE original sort..

I never drove one of these new so have no idea what the original suspension may have felt like..

A shop owner recently told me he once met the president of Bilstein who told him he'd never run them in a BMW. so
