I replaced the reverse / 5th gear gate detents (side to side) as they were spongy and vague.
While I had the transmission out, I also replaced the forward and backwards detent. I used the OE BMW drift tools to make sure everything was installed to the correct depth.
Also rebuilt the shifter with new bushings and plastic parts while it was out.
Since the service, I now notice pushing the shifter in or out of gear is a lot softer. It was odd, but I adapted. Recently, the car keeps popping out of 2nd gear. The detent as I go into 2nd gear is very soft so it almost feels like it's not holding enough pressure. 4th gear hasn't popped out, but that may just be the torque being applied?
Any thoughts on what to check? Hoping I don't have to take the transmission out again.
My plan was go look at the shift assembly and check alignment. I also ordered a UUC short shifter kit with DSSR so if it's something with the shifter, I can just install it and hope to make it better.

Not yet. I plan on putting the car up on a lift in a week after I get some stuff done on my Cayman S.
It has a lot of play front to back in shifter? Will it pop in and out of gear effortlessly when shifting with the car off?
It does have some play front and back. Some effort is needed to shift with car off, but not a lot.
