    Belt removal

Hello I am trying to replace my water pump on my 1999 323i and cannot figure out how to get the belt off properly. I've read about the tensioner and that i need to loosen the nut behind it however I can't seem to figure out how the heck to get to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Not sure if the 323 motor is similar to the 325i motor, but the tensioner usually has a dust cap over it with an M8(ish) Allen key bolt. Just pop off the dust cap and
get the allen key in there and crank it to one side to release the tension on the belt. Do the same to reattach the belt.

Could be hex head or #50 torx, like mine. I took a pic with cell phone. You don't remove anything, just turn it to loosen.
    Thanks,

Mine is a 16mm or 5/8" socket. Recently converted the tensioner to hydraulic and it came with a torx (star) bolt but I kept the original bolt.
