okay guys after 7 months of my e30 being parked i’ve finally pinpointed my starting issue. the yellow and black wire connected to the start is bad. i knew this before and thought i fixed the issue by soldering the wire but i went back and cut it then reconnected it with a butt connected and boom e30 starters up no issue. 2 days later nothing again. i’m convinced that i must replace this whole wire but has anybody ever replaced that wire? what’s it connected too? and is it easy to replace?
Its the small wire?
No e30s again.
yea i can add a picture later if necessary
the small wire comes from the key switch, I think. you should be able to look under the dash and find the same colors on one coming from the steering column wiring harness. that wire just puts the power to the solenoid so it moves the 12v from the battery wire to turn the starter. I know it goes through the round plug right by the fuse box and from that plug into the cabin through the big group of wires behind the glove box and ecu.
you can put one lead from your multimeter (set to measure ohms) on the yellow/black wire and touch the other lead to the wires in the round c101 plug by the fuse box and you will find it there. I just cannot remember which number it is.
No e30s again.
