(PCV related ???) What is this tube, where is it, and how do I replace it - photos...

My car is a 2006 325xi. I had to take it to a local shop to have a starter installed. During the installation, the mechanic discovered some shoddy repair work. A tube was taped/glued together. He said I need to replace this tube. He referred to it a a PCV tube (or something to that effect). He said my car would have the "arctic" version (or some cold weather term, I think it was arctic). I don't know exactly where the part is on the car, as I only saw the pictures. He didn't show it to me on the car. He did say with the broken tube, the oil could leak out, so I assume it's on or near the oil pan.

So, when I got home, I figured I'd look the part up and see if I could find how to change it to see if I could do it myself and save a few bucks.

I can't find the part online, and I can't find any tutorials on how to replace it.

What is this thing and how do I change it???

    Thanks for your help!

You should have just let him change it. It's a two minute job if he had the intake off to replace the starter. If the car is completely reassembled now, you made a crap load more work for yourself.

And by the way, your pictures won't work since you're brand new to the forum. I believe it takes 25 posts or more to post pictures. You can however hot link them from a photo hosing website. I can't see your pictures, but I know which hose is broken.

I can see the pics on my phone.

Yeah, should have let him change it. He was halfway there.

Well, unfortunately, he did not give me the opportunity to have him replace it while it was all apart. He put the starter on and called me later in the day, after all the work was done, and told me of the problem and showed me the pictures. That's a heck of a deal.

Can you please post a web link to show me which part I need? I don't even know what this tube is, exactly.

    Thank you!

Well that was pretty shitty of him.

If you go to realoem.com you should be able to input your VIN number and look up the parts for your car. Or take the pieces you have and go to the dealership and order them.

I do not have the remains/damaged parts. I don't know what the mechanic did with them. I don't know if he put the bad parts back on, or if there is just no tube installed at all ???. I am in a rural area and there are no BMW dealers within 100 miles.

I *think* I found the part that needs replaced. Is this it?: https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/BM-114...0aAn-7EALw_wcB

Also, is this like a "MUST FIX TODAY" type thing, or is it when I get a chance to take care of it, type thing?

    Thanks again.

You need to fix that ASAP. The oil that is separated from the crank case fumes drains back to the pan via that tube. Without it, you're probably dripping oil all down the side of your motor, as well as causing a large vacuum leak which can lead to many drivability issues. Not sure since I can't see it, but you may need to also replace the hose that connects from the oil separator to that tube.
