This filter is the answer for the question nobody has asked.
So, for $100 (the price of ~20 conventional proven filters) I get to buy an ultrasonic cleaner (for how much?) and then deal with all the hassle and filth of washing this stupid thing.
    Yeah, sign me up.

You have the world wide web at your fingertips, hundreds, no thousands of sellers for this item. What's the hassle?
In forty plus years of servicing cars I've yet to see a collapsed filter. The only way it can have higher flow* is more surface area(doubtful with mesh vs. paper) or allow larger particulates to pass.
For the price of a proven efficient paper filter you really want to wash(and you think finding a filter is a hassle) one of these? How effectively do you think you can do this with fuel?
    Just more hoo-ha from K&N

    * Any decent paper filter that hasn't been run for far too long isn't restrictive to begin with.

I agree. And if you're trying save the planet, which is admirable, I don't think the use of cleaning products/methods makes up for the fact that you're not throwing away a filter each time.

The metal medium is definitely more efficient and less restrictive than the paper/cellulose filters, that's for sure. But our oil pumps were designed to work with that.

If it was priced better, I would say 40-50$ range I would give it a go.

How does one keep the filtered ‘stuff’ from contaminating the non-collection side of this filter when cleaning?

Maybe you flush it, from the inside to the outside?

Word, its not cheap. This is one of the things holding me back, there are like 1000 other places I can spend $120 on my car.

A normal filter is £10, thats about £80.
Assuming a filter change every year, you would need to use it for 9 years to get your money's worth.
How much is your time worth cleaning that thing?
