Go for it. I want one but haven't coughed up for it yet.
Would you put in in the dishwasher or washing machine to clean it?
ultrasonic cleaner, see here how it works https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...6#post30271036
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
I was skeptical but I find nothing negative about this. If I wasn't getting free oil and oil filters from FCPeuro I'd go with this.
They don't state the nominal particle filtered. They state it aides in heat dissipation, wow that's joke. As already mentioned, you could buy over 20 filters for that, @ 8k per oil change that's 160,000 miles of driving lol. So now you have the dirty job of cleaning out your oil filter and if you do a poor job of cleaning then the dirt can get sucked in. ASTMF316 is a test method where they don't mention results, hopefully on their website. I sound cynical because of the days of the K&N air filter that gets oil on your MAFS.

Totally fair to be skeptical. I have some experience with stainless steel mesh filters used in fuel particle and other "scientific" purposes and I can tell you there are 5 and 10 micro screens readily available. What they used in this? I have no idea... and I cant speak to the function of this unit as I don't have one. I can say these have been used in all sorts of racing applications for a long time and you should be looking in your oil filters anyways. Use fuel and a neodium magnet to clean it simple.
I've read the information on k&p site. Makes sense on why they don't strive for a smaller micron filtration and choose flow rate over smaller filtration. I've also read tests that no oil filter on the market works efficiently past 5k miles. Before FCPeuro I was changing my oil filter every 3k miles with an inexpensive one I would buy in bulk from rockauto.
BMW specified 15k miles for oil and filter on some cars during some model years.
I too don't like seeing paper filter looking mangled, but they are under a lot of stress when operating so this is normal. I guess if they sent me one for free I would try it

I have been buying my filters in lots of ten for years, cheaper and handier with multiple vehicles using the same one. There are always a couple on the shelf.
My e46 uses that spec but have never gone more than 8K in the oil or 4K on a filter.BMW specified 15k miles for oil and filter on some cars during some model years.
Showgun this filter is like 3x bigger than the one in your link, you would need a rather large ultrasonic cleaner (~$100) vs. the $20 one in your link.
Anyone have a filter that we can add in line for the e36 power steering system?

I thought the one in the reservoir was junk? just a paper screen or something.
Any opinions on this one:

Haven’t most of these cars gone 20 years without an aftermarket power steering filter? I have changed my reservoir a couple times in the 14 years I have owned my 99M3. I have read of inline filters. I think bavauto used to sell one.
Been a while. I'll try to find it. I looked because my older knows nothing about cars brother told me so I had to prove him wrong but couldn't. So seems useless to use 10k or 15k mile oil with a filter that isn't filtering correctly. Why was because, IIRC, they were filled to capacity and didn't flow freely forcing oil to bypass or just maxed out the capacity to hold the small stuff.
Working on the 325 reminds me how much I LOVED my old Jeep Wrangler. A bus ate it.
Who else went out and changed their filter today

I changed mine like two days before this thread. Pos fram filter but whatever. I did find a piece of plastic as well as some orange engine sealant bits. The engine sealant was from the po dicking around. The little plastic thing... Looks like it could have been a piece of a oil quart lid or something. It was about 0.625" in diamiter, about a 0.05" wall and about 0.02 or so thick... No idea what this could be from but I hope my engine is not eating something internally... If so at least its plastic? Maybe chain guide items?
This has been an interesting subject about oil filtration in general and testing. It seems that the biggest problem with testing in the real world is having identical engines and conditions to compare.
I haven't heard any first hand experiences with them, for now I'll stick with conventional filters.
The shop foreman at my old stealership job recommended a fresh oil filter once between oil changes. They're cheap and easy enough to replace with the top mounted layout.
