Hello Everyone,
So I was trouble shooting a misfire that showed up after a car wash. My car shut down and wouldn't turn on for a day, I believed it was my DME unit so I replaced it. Car turned back on but would make popping sounds and would generally idle abnormally, This was especially bad when I drove it. The engine sounded really bad when accelerating.
I decided to do a tune up changing spark plugs, coil boots, fuel filter, fuel injectors and a couple breather hoses. I would do one maintenance item then try running it to see if there was improvements.
The car sounds much better now but there is still this slight loss of power, sort of a jerky feeling, when I'm accelerating from around 1.5k to 2.5k rpm. The jerking feeling doesn't last throughout this range but at specific points and only when I'm pressing the gas. I don't know what can be wrong, I'm guessing fuel pressure regulator? or a bad fuse? Either that or a compression issue.
Just looking for ideas on what direction to head now... I hope it's sufficient to pass her up coming smog test
I had a VERY similar situation with my e46 a few years back, turned out to be the mass air flow meter. Maybe not your issue but something to consider

Possibly a vacuum leak.
