'99 M3 Convertible top not working... HELP!

Hey everyone,

So here's the story. '99 M3, top worked fine but was in bad shape. Had new top put on, now it doesn't work; light's flashing. This is the fully automatic top with three motors. I've tried doing the reinitialization procedure, and all I hear is the lock motor, the one that latches it to the windshield running and running, but nothing else is happening. Eventually the cover motor pulls the cover down tight, and everything stops and the light keeps flashing.

Any ideas on what to check to make this thing work? How do you communicate with the convertible top module? I've plugged in a Snap-on scanner to it, but it doesn't show the module.


Anything I'm missing?

Any input is helpful at this point.

Google the procedure. The top needs to be stowed away and the cover down. Then engage the motory.

Step 1 hit your browsers back button
step 2 click on convertible sub forum
step 3 read how to on resyncing top
step 4 resync top. ��

If that doesn't work there are a few other issues that can be causing your problems, Searching and reading through the convertible sub forum will gain you a wealth of knowledge .

Another idea that may work . ( it does on my M3 )
start the resync procedure with the top up, at the point where the header motor stops on the way down,
