I have a 2001 750iL with DSP and widescreen monitor. All the sudden I can’t select the CD changer mode. When I press the “mode“ button, instead of cycling between radio—tape—CD, it just a cycles radio—tape—radio—tape, completely skipping CD mode. I’ve checked all fuses. What would cause this? Thx.
WTB the following Highline/Individual parts for my 2001 750iL in Black (updated Apr 2016):
-front sport seat-back cushion
-rear U.S. entertainment armrest with radio/MID/seat/phone/shade/etc controls
-rear digital climate control with rear blower and black leather housing/console
-glovebox and rear right 2001 LHD 750iL wood trim with flag inlay; maybe the dash pieces too

Did you do some work in the trunk?
Check the ibus connector at the CD changer. Perhaps it popped out.
i still stumped. CD mode wont play. (I've been using a DICE mediabridge for years via my CD changer connection). Not sure what to do anymore.

Try re-setting your connection by simply unplugging the power plug (3-pin connector) then re-connect. I also get this error sometimes, and this trick works for me.
I have similar problem with 98 740 , I fixed it
It was a fuse in a small box underneath the cd changer , it was rusty .

Figured it out. Apparently the connector at the DICE mediabridge was loose. I even checked that by disconnecting/reconnecting before I even started this thread. Oh well.
While I was in the trunk checking the connections, I noticed that one of the wires (yellow w/brown stripe) from the blue connector at the back of the DVD nav unit was cut. Intentionally cut, presumable by the PO. Is there anything that might explain this? I do know that the PO upgraded to MKIV widescreen.

There was one wire I had to cut when I swapped to MKIV that was blocking audio due to a conflict between a MKII module that was eliminated when you go to MKIV. It was like the nav audio, I think.
Incidentally, my Mediabridge will occasionally disappear, usually comes back on a restart.
