still looking for a working 733i cluster....preferably in working condition. I kind of don't want to mess with changing gears and such. let me know what you guys have available!!
I have never owned an e23 w/ working odometer, I think finding one where that works is going to be impossible. If you find a cluster where everything but the odometer works and the price is right, I'd buy that and replace the gears later.

i really want to do that, but my OCD wont let me lol. if I buy one I have no choice but to fix it and get everything working. I have seen some that say they are in good condition but the odometer, but seeing these battery issues really have me concerned on the "true" condition of the clusters internally. The symptoms are almost the same between some that are replaceable and some of them that are completely gone.
Listen, if that's the way you are and you don't have the parts handy, check this place out or anther one like it. http://www.bavrest.com/pricing.html Your is the same as the e28 essentially so the price would be the same I would think. Send it to them, get it back, put it in, game over. All the while you can be OCD'ing on something else. BTW, it ain't real if we got no pictures.
Mkay Espoe, I got you I got you. I'll throw some on the head later when I get home. Pictures do go a long way.
Perfect! Seriously though without knowing your budget, or how urgently you want to get on the road, it’s hard to recommend a good course of action. you can do most any repairs yourself or DIY, it’s just a question of what is the best use of your time and money at the moment, and what you’re comfortable taking on. Tools, space, lifts, buddy help, all factor in of course.
The thing with the pictures though is it helps with the ideas about what’s best to do. guys like @bondospecial and @hitmanx, jay and several others, take one look at a picture and spout off stuff from the top of their heads that’s just mind boggling. We call Eric the e23 whisperer. I’ve seen him recommend and explain complete hose rerouting, vacuum and water, from just from one pic.
So the pics will help us help you, and we learn in the process. It will also save a ton of frustration from guessing, and lots of time. Plus we’re car geeks anyway and that’s probably the main thing
Looking forward to getting you revived and on the road!

I might have some early cluster parts for you.
I have at least a dozen E28 & 23 clusters.

Hey Jay I just PMd you
the 745i worked when you owned it the first time, it broke when I owned it, twice. You just didn't rack the miles up because the HVAC blew mouse pee smell at you
OP if you find a cluster that has everything working aside from the odometer, count your blessings and order the gears to fix that part. Not that bad of a job.
