    2008 335xi Suddenly Won't Start

    Hey!

Last night, our BMW suddenly wouldn't start (it was working fine 10 minutes prior with no noticable issues and a near full gas tank). When we attempt to start it, there is a click and certain lights start flickering sporadically. The brake is extremely hard and won't go down far when attempting to start. The dash lights come on when starting car without engine. Sometimes when attempting to start, other electronics will start acting up (wipers going up partially, radio turning on and off, etc.). The first time we tried starting it, there was a lot of clicking coming from glovebox area. When using the key fob to attempt locking and unlocking, it seems to be sluggish or sometimes does not work. The seats move intermittently as well. The only warning light that has come on has been the

We have tried jump starting it twice (last night after it happened and this morning) with no difference. We have made sure the battery connections are tight and even had the battery disconnected overnight to see if that would make a difference. Tried starting with the IBS connector unplugged and cleaned the relay off.

We are thinking it could still be the battery even though we couldn't get it to jump because it is older. We are going to replace it either way and will see if that fixes the issue. However, we are not certain - is there anything else it could be? We have tried looking online with no clear fix to our issue. Starter? Alternator? Relay? Integrated supply module? We are thinking it's more of an electrical issue than not because of laggy locks/chairs not functioning properly.

Off to get a new battery now!

Thanks! Any help is much appreciated. 🤞😁

At any point in this did you check voltage? That is an important first step. Then a good diagnostic scan with a tool that can read all BMW modules would be next.

Check the main cable connection in the fuse panel behind the passenger foot well trim panel. If it's not tight and secure, there's a repair kit to make it so. Coincidentally, that kit was part of a recall which your car may or may not have been a part of, and may or may not have had performed.
