Hi guys. Today I have received the unpleasant surprise that I have a leak in the evaporator. To change it, I have been told that it is necessary to disassemble the entire dashboard. I have been looking for information and some say that for the evaporator it is only necessary to disassemble the two glove boxes. Could you confirm it? I am desperately looking for information to disassemble the dashboard but I can not find anything that describes the process in detail and all I find are broken links. Could you help me?
Disassemble the glove compartments first, some metal bracing, then some plastic covers below the compartments as well. Then there are a cover to remove (4-5 torx screws T20) covering the evaporator. Remove the bolt holding the short dual tube piece, leaving the expansion valve to the evaporator. Next, in the engine compartment, remove the coupe filter parts. This will make the tubes from the compressor/dryer visible. Remove the bolt holding the mentioned tubes from the dual tube piece in the coupe. Now, pull the tubes in the engine compartment towards the front of the car about 1 inch. This will make it possible to remove the dual tube piece in the coupe. When removed, you can take the evaporator out.
It is all well described in the BMW manual except the part about pulling the tubes in the engine compartment. Also, the leak in the evaporator is most liklely the fixings (o - rings) of the expansion valve. I have had it twice. It is most important that the 2 pressure plates are flat towards the expansion valve. Hope this will help.
Thanks, thanks a lot. Now I have it under control
