E46 Transmission Cooler O Rings
I have a coolant leak which I have traced back to the transmission cooler on my e46 auto. This is going to make me sound like an idiot, but ... when I pulled the transmission cooler out, I expected to see O rings on the male transmission cooler pipes. I am just doing everything by feel. Do the O rings sit flush in the female expansion tank mounting bracket which the transmission cooler pipes slide into, and I just can't feel them? Or is my car actually missing the O rings? I can't imagine it would have held water this long if this was the case.

Most of the time you will find the o-rings on the female side of those connections. While I don't recommend just replacing the o-ring, as the hoses tend to be weaken by then.
