Oil Pressure Low Warning

I'm hoping someone here can help me with this issue. Recently, my wife's 2011 BMW 535i X-Drive had an overheating issue. She works at one of those Pick-A-Part/Pull-A-Part places and had heard that a local shop in our area works on BMW's and so she insisted we take the car there for repairs. Well, new water pump, Oil Change & $1800 later, she has the car back. Only thing is, now the car keeps showing this "Oil Pressure Low, Stop Carefully" warning. She returned to the local "Mechanic" and he tells her, "Oh, its just a sensor, don't worry about it". I'm not a mechanic but I know that low oil pressure is a bad thing. What should we do???

Get a new sensor and test the oil pressure with a known good gauge.
Never go back to those mechanics that make such assumptions.
I'd avoid driving he car much if those aren't checked and repaired.

You can't risk thousands of dollars of damage to an assumption. Hopefully the damage hasn't already been done...

What oil was put in the engine? Can you check to make sure that enough oil was put in the engine?
