Hello guys,
Can someone help me up ? My e38 got strange noises coming from a space between gearbox and engine as video shows: https://youtu.be/iW_9lsvfsjE
Its horrible when accelerating, it gets louder every RPM - only when moving, but when I am parked in (p) position its just few "clanks" like in video, Gearbox is ok, no problem with it.
Just curious if someone had same problem as me.
good point, hmm
My father had a friend that his car made a horrible sound and it turned out to be a cracked flex plate.

i think thats the issue, but, i am not sure
Sounds like a flywheel to me. I hear that ring all the time on 750 startups. Maybe the starter is not retracting as it should.

Has anyone ever gotten anywhere with this? I think I’m chasing a similar clink/clank noise once during startup and it also happens a bit more regularly during hard acceleration
This was the correct answer in my situation. I had some extra time to work on my car in the shop one day and decided to try to shim the starter. I used two washers on each bolt, it was tricky getting everything installed without the washers falling off of the bolts for the starter. Sure enough my think/clink/ring sound during heavy rpm has disappeared. I still have a bit of a “ping/ring” noise during startup when the starter gear lets go of the flywheel, but this noise does not bother me as much as the metallic noise during heavy engine load
