Hi,
I am looking for help for my 1986 735i, 5 speed. I want to replace my coolant temp sensor. The problem I am having, is that the replacement appears to have a piggyback that attaches to the new sensor , with 2 wires coming off of it.
I think I have the original sensor....it has 2 connectors coming off of it, then there are 2 connections that attach to east post - one connection has 3 wires, the other has 2 wires that are crimped with a connector to each post.
so my question, has anyone upgraded to the new style, and if so, how do you do the wiring? do you just crimp the 3 wires to one of the new wires on the piggyback, and crimp the 2 wires to teh other wire on the connector?
the current setup, 1 'post' is wider than the other.
thanks in advance.

Do you have a picture of what you bought?

This is a picture of what multiple sites are showing as my replacement sensor.....I will try to find a pic of the pigtail that fits in here, but do not have that pic right now....
that is the DME (ecu) temp sensor which uses an EV1 pigtail. The 2 spade terminal sensor you pictured I believe is for your dash temp gauge.

thanks for pointing that out....you are correct. my dash gauge is NOT working - i had rodents in my engine bay several years back, and they chewed the connector off - so I tried the connector shown, and it never worked since then.
any ideas where to buy a connector (that i can crimp the wires on)? the blue one in the picture was my attempt to fix what the rodents ate, but i'm not sure that worked (either that connector or the sensor itself is bad).
I also want to replace the 2 spade temp sensor for dash, and then make sure wire connectors are working - i found the 2 spade when I looked again after your reply, they call it a 'temperature sending unit'.....
