    E92 Coil Springs in.....weird position

I just finished replacing the front pads + rotors by myself! I feel great about it, especially after dealing with a stripped rotor bolt.

During the work, I noticed the front driver's side coil springs were oddly placed and I couldn't really move it by hand. I did notice recently the car made some noise when it was a bit bumpy.

Should I replace the front left shock? Take it to a mechanic to assess the cost? I'm not quite sure how to proceed.

That spring is broken! Get a new one and have it replaced.

And to add to White94RX’s advice, check the spring on the other side. It too may be in bad shape.

W, do you recommend replacing springs in pairs?

Yes, like shocks, should be replaced in pairs. Now if the car is say less than 2-3 years old, I would only do one, but since this car is 10+ it is tired.

Also to add, do the whole thing: springs; shocks; bump stop; and strut bearing. Most of the spring pads can be re-used as well as the protective boots, just take a close look at them before you order is all.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to sell the car so I think I'll just replace the left one (since this accident just occurred and the other side looks fine).

If they failed due to age, and/or rust, yeah I'd definitely do both. If it was a freak accident, or an impact, then probably just the one that broke.
