    Keyless module harness help

So i purchased the keyless entry module, it looks like i need a wiring harness, any one have a part number. Where would it connect? The module is bigger then the empty slot, did i buy the wrong unit?

There would've been a harness, and you'll find the car's connector taped to the wiring harness somewhere under there.

You can probably find the installation instructions online, and from that you'll get the point to point wiring diagram. If you're really lucky, maybe you can find a harness...

YEARS ago, I put an aftermarket alarm in someone's car, and it didn't include the connector to mate with the factory piece, so all the individual wires (with pin & sleeve terminations on them) went into the factory connector without a shell. That's what you'll have to do, if you can't find the connecting harness. A bit more effort, but certainly doable.

Oh, and it's a bit of a tight squeeze, but I've MADE that controller fit into an empty slot...
(they're in all 3 of my cars, and I've done some installs for others too)

Looks like it. The missing harness would've gone between that connector and the controller (module).

Find the pinouts online, and make your own harness__remember__neatness counts!

You're missing the adapter harness that should have come with the module.

I've found the black 12 pin diagram from the car, I can't find the keyless module wiring diagram. Can someone point me in the right direction.

I was able to source a harness from eBay for my installation. There are currently no listings for one, but this listing for a module for an E36 looks to have the correct harness and is not too expensive. 112972073529

I installed the module with the 10 point harness. I did not connect any of the other wires (for the alarm). The car has an aftermarket radio and no light in the center console. I did the steps to sync the transmitter, but was unsuccessful. Am i missing something?

I disconnected the radio switch, still not syncing. My interior light fuse was blown, noticed it when opening the door, changed it. Should the dome light come on when I open the trunk? I can drive the car with the trunk open, no warning lights, could the trunk switch be bad.

The dome light should not come on when you open the trunk, but the trunk light should come on. If your trunk light is on when the trunk is open, you can check the trunk switch by putting your phone, on video, into the trunk and closing the lid. The video should show the trunk light going off if the trunk switch is good.

I don't have a trunk light, was it an option? I did see the 2 pin switches.

I'm done, everything is going on Ebay. I will go the aftermarket route. Thanks for your help.

Sorry you couldn’t make the OEM system work. For my aftermarket installation I used Avital 2101L spliced to the vehicle end of the factory harness. See:https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...Avital+keyless

You really need the alarm LED to know where your at and to verify response from the module when enrolling the fob.

On a 2000 M Coupe, where would the red LED plate be installed?

I think it is usually in the front on the console, but if you didn't purchase your car new, it could have been moved to between the seats.
