While rebuilding the 323i calipers I noticed the orientation of the brake pad spacer (see red arrow) isn't consistent. On the driver's side, the vertical spacer is located on the side opposite the bleeder screw.
But on the passenger side, it's on the same side as the bleeder.
Does it make any difference and if so, which is correct? The calipers look pretty bad, but bores are perfect and with a wire brush, new seals and pistons, they will be like new. BTW,
progress continues on the Bronzit's euro driveline swap into the Hennarot with both rear subframes, diffs and suspensions out and ready for installation.
Eric would say you need to zinc plate those things. Can i have permission to forward a pic to him?
Those look like two different types of spring spacers you have; not simply the same spacers in different orientations. Is that what you meant? Which type is correct?

Yes. The outboard pad is the fixed one, is it not? So that would mean you first, top picture is correct.
well let us see a pic after you're done cleaning them up and reassembling. maybe that's what road salt does to calipers.
This one looks like the spring spacer used for 2 piston front calipers. It might have worked for a one piston caliper, but doesn't look correct to me.
Looking much better after knocking off the rust and new parts installed. Excelsior!
Boy, those calipers sure look like they had a long nap in a wet place!
I was looking for new hardware myself recently and there are definitely no bargains to be had there
Hope they work out well for you!
Artifacts recovered from the RMS Titanic
Definitely looks better! I’d take the time to get them sandblasted and paint/powder coat them myself just to protect them in the coming years

Indeed, there is also High Temperature Urethane Caliper Paint Kits from the reviews done assembled as well, brake cleaner outside, wire brush clean and brush it on, perfect time to do it.
