Exclamation Notification on Instrument Cluster that reads "Steering!"

    Hello all!

I am trying to help my mom with her 2002 745i. She told me that usually after driving about 100 feet or so, a notification pops up on the instrument cluster that reads exactly “Steering!” - She also said that she didn’t notice any difference in her steering or anything else since this message started popping up.

I tried searching Google, but since the notification is so generic, I couldn’t find anything relevant. Does anyone know what this message means?

    Thank you for your help!

You're going to have to have it scanned for fault codes. NOT with a crappy generic OBD II code reader from Autozone. A real, BMW capable scan tool that reads any and all the modules in the car. There's probably 40 or so in a 2002 745i.

You could take it to a BMW specialist shop or dealership if you're not comfortable working on it.

I got this a lot when my steering system had a slow leak.

It probably just needs topping off.

Don't let it run low though, the same supply of steering fluid also runs the anti roll suspension system.
