New to BMW enthusiasm. Looking for a clean e34 540i 6 speed

Alright I need a daily driver and the e34 540i 6 speed checks off every single box I can think of.
Pretty hard to find them for sale nowadays.
Anyone know what's the value of a clean one? I would like to find one for 6k or less but I can spend more for a real nice example.
    Thanks guys.

They come up for sale once in a while. Not as often as they used to though. If you're lucky you might find one on craigslist for sale cheap. I'd guess to say a decent one is worth around $7500 today although two sold on BaT for 13- 14g's.

    Thanks man.
They seemed to be quite a bit more affordable in the past. Have they been going up in value?

There seems to be two categories they fall into. Over 150-200k miles, rust and some work needed for $3,500-$5,500 range, and less than 150k miles, cleaner (or West coast cars) for $8,000+

I own have a black/black (second owner bought with 186k miles) daily I've been considering selling, but its an ongoing 'project'. I will say they go for many miles and it's been a blast to drive daily since early 2009!

Bought this one last Summer for $2,500. It had a fairly recent repaint and some body repairs so has no exposed rust. Interior was mostly clean if not pristine, ODO showed 228,000. I've sunk several thousand more into over the year relying on mechanic repair shops to do most of the work I lack the means to do myself.
    I am spoiled. I've paid $2,300 for a 540/6 with 174,000 mi, $2,500 for a 540/6 w/ 150,000 and $2,500 for a 540/6 with 228,000 miAttachment 653355 its Oxford Green/ Parchment. I'm giving Stephen in Sweden a run for the most Oxford Green 540/6...

That should totally be doable. Rust and they shouldn’t be worth more than like 3500. Super clean all around is usually over 8k.

You should be able to find a rust free one with pretty decent everything else for 6-7k

    Thanks for the help, everybody.

Its sad that BaT prices have gone to the overpriced Barrett or Mecum levels.

I would say good examples of the 540 6spd have gone up the past 5 years. Use to be able to get nice clean ones for $4-5k and now they are sometimes north of $8k like some have said.

People have asked about mine and I have said the conversation starts at $10k. While I could probably sell it for at least that on BaT, is it worth that maybe, but considering I have zero plans on selling it, it would take a lot of money to pry it from my hands.

It's not sad if you own one though. The conversation would start much higher for me.

For 10k plus it needs to look like it came off the showroom floor though, not saying your cars don’t look like that it just isn’t super common to see them in that condition.

I’m just happy that plenty of E34’s can still be found cheaply, like there’s a 540i/6 on Craigslist in California for like $1950, which is a good price.

My own 525it/5 was $350, which I was pretty happy about. I wouldn’t be able to afford these cars if they were all $10k+. But I can afford a cheap BMW and slowly fix it up myself.

They made so many of them that they can be found at all price ranges which is nice.

Nice E34s in CA are a dime a dozen lol, east coast only rusty out of shape ones are dime a dozen. So easy to find nice examples of practically any car in CA.
