E36 Cigarette lighter socket bulb Part#?

Does anyone know the Sylvania Lightbulb part#?

Seems like bulb from the dealer is part# 63217167000

    It's item 10 below:

    https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...54#63217167000

Never knew there was a bulb in there!

It should like the rim of the lighter.

    Thanks

I gave the dealer initially that part #

    Bmw part # 61311361769

as I found it doing a search

    and he said no, its

    part# 63217167000

I'm pulling the bulb this weekend and will update the thread.

Those are definitely two different bulbs, the one you mentioned is much larger and wider.

I believe part # 61311361769 is the correct one.

No, I am not driving an M3 yet (I have a 328i) but will be getting one.

Plot thickens. Silly to write a thread about changing bulbs but this one deserves some attention.

The bulb appears to be glued from the factory. Yup, found another thread supporting that observation. I'll try to include the link.

Access to the bulb was easy. Remove the OBC and then pop out the "tray" containing the switches etc.

Removing the bulb took encouragement. Like most I have removed dozen of blubs from bmws, Toyota, radios, cluster...blah, blah, bhal...

Napa has the bulb # 2723

I had to use latex glove to pull the bulb (kept slipping) but it came out.

Neither the old bulb or the oem bulb would stay secure anymore more to the socket (holder).

Dealer sells the holder with the bulb included for $16.

Now I understand why that option is available. Who buys a bulb with a holder?

My advice is don't buy the bulb. Get the entire unit. Otherwise, you are wasting time visiting stores staying in line and going to the dealer.

The part # for the bulb appears to be what the dealer says. The part # for the socket 61138353797 is not the one realoem shows. But 61138353797 is exactly what I have in my car.

I'll try posting links to show the difference. I'll be taking the socket/holder unit to the dealer tomorrow to make sure I order the right part.

They have the bulb in stock. I am sure the parts person will try to install it. Unless I broke something or if there is some special trick to installing a bulb, I'll be buying the bulb with holder part.

Was the original 1.2W bulb glued in, or had it melted itself into the plastic over the years?

If it melted itself in, a #2723 2.3W bulb should make an even better thermal welder/drill.

Thanks for the update man. Good info. However, why would you need to remove the OBC to change the lighter bulb? Just pull the lighter socket from the console....

Yeah that’s not gonna work unless all your plastic tabs are broken. Then your still out of luck as the bulbholder is not on the socket, but on the black trimpiece itself.

You remove the OBC/cubby/MID then slide up the lighter trimpiece so you can access the bulbholder.

So finally there is light. Btw, the old NAPA light worked by applying pressure but once release it would turn off.

Interesting, the new OEM unit fits into the cigarette shaft but doesn't click on or anything, so its a tad loose for my liking but not enough to dislodge. Might be better to wedge a small piece of electrical tape in there before inserting.

The unit is the same as the rear ash tray and yes that bulb is out as well. Next $49 order to ECS Tuning, I'll order one. Perhaps I should have pushed it further? When I do the rear in a few months, I'll study it better and if I find anything different, I'll update the thread.

Finally, light after more than a decade of driving not knowing it existed.
