My husband recently purchased me a 2006 X3 and we are having a few problems and don’t know much about them.
My main concern is when I am slowing down from second to first gear there is a thump. The car drives fine otherwise. It has a new front driveshaft and new transfer case so not sure what else to check.
There was also a small antifreeze leak so we changed the antifreeze canister this weekend and now occasionally the antifreeze light is showing on the dash. It doesn’t stay on all the time just comes on randomly, the car isn’t overheating.
Also when someone is sitting in the passenger seat sometimes the passenger airbag off light is lit and the airbag light shows on the dash like it isn’t registering that someone is sitting in the seat.
The last issue is the windshield wipers. When I use them and shut them off they stop straight up on the driver side of the windshield so I have to wait for them to go down and turn the car off quickly.
Any help would be appreciated I don’t want to spend the money for a shop to guess on all of the issues.
ok quickly (from what you've said)...
*change all underbody fluids should address the bump
*antifreeze/coolant sounds like your simply low in coolant (please tell me your using the blue fluid) anyways add a little more as you drive and notice when the light stops coming on.
Very important! here...do not just dump in additional fluid to fill it to the brim...we Americans are like that but No!...otherwise that expansion tank/antifreese canister will explode !...this is not an american car...its a long story.
*take the car to BMW...have them check for recall on the passenger seat mat, should be...then the repair is free
* for the wipers, your issue can be coded to stop at the down position this is a type of specialty and if your really serious about this do a web search "code my car" but you really shouldn't be having this problem.
Finally, (and only you know this)
this is all true if your car is over 90k miles. If these issues are happening before 90k get a other opinion.
And here's a bonus...replace those ground straps under the car especially if you/car live in a harsh, cold, road salty climate.
