    Throttle Return Springs Needed

    Does anyone know where I can get aftermarket throttle return springs for my 1979 320i?

    I purchased some springs which were supposed to be aftermarket for the 320i but they are not identified correctly online. The springs they send are only 1" in length, what is needed are 2 1/2" in length.

    If anyone knows of springs from another vehicle like a Mini Couper or VW, Audi, basically any that will work. I am down to one old spring, which I imagine is not going to last much longer.

    Thanks

    Ugg, good question!
    Because NLA, maybe try this, or similar? https://www.thespringstore.com/catal...ension-springs

    *there's also the plastic absorber? that helps prevent the spring from flopping around.

    Two springs, two absorbers. And always use grease on the spring ends..

    Maybe just try an auto store. My local auto store actually has a great selection of springs in the "help" section. Packs of different sizes(return springs, gas pedal etc) and packs of "brake springs" which are used on the brake pedal assembly. Some require slight cut to length trimming the ends and re-bend to exact fit. I keep a bag assorted of these for the spares in the track box.

    Maybe McMaster-Carr has them? https://www.mcmaster.com/springs

    Excellent. Thank you, I am sure I can find them from one of those suggestions if not all.

    You could start here, and find a dorman that fits. Amazon used to have one specific for my '77 2.0L. Also, I grabbed one from an 198x porsche 944/924 and it works nicely. Maybe search Amazon using one of those cars?

    Just a followup on this. I purchased the following from McMaster-Carr and they are working well. So if anyone doesn't want to search around here it is;

    Model # 9433K73 " 302 Stainless Steel Extension Springs with Hook Ends, 3" Long, 0.375" OD, 0.045" Wire Diameter, packs of 3"

    Costs $4.29 for a package of three.
